From June 28th to July 19th i had been to Siena School for knowing foreign language what ASL (American Sign Language). On first day, i thought that the ASL is same to my mother tounge (LIS - Italian Sign Language) and instead ASL has a lot of different than LIS.The ASL has many manual alphabet that it relayes what a words doesn't have sign, for example, most of american deaf used the manual alphabet's initial for their sign's monthis (JANuary, FEBruary, MARch etc...). On the top of this, there are other alphabetical configuration what it accompanies american's sign (for example. people..configuration of P in this siign)
When i knew this language, i didn't understand why it so there and instead of LIS that LIS doesn't have it! An american friend explained me that before of ASL, about 30 years ago, there was a school for deaf that they learned and used only alphabet manual, when the ASL was created whit few signs, the most part of deafs didn't accept this language for 10 years about.
after 10 years, the ASL was spread althought a thousand of criticism, but one day...through pass the word and configuration's play, the deafs that they stayed in this school, so tired for always used alphabet, then this alphabet wasn't new and standardize as ASL.
a few moment after, each deaf went to know ASL for curiosity but e
ach deaf was attracted from ASL then herself spread this new language, lots of deaf came to know this language. The school of deaf (alphabet manual) was failed. When this school was closed, the deafs looked for each solution for create new school thanks at support of famous people, but the problem was always remained....this ASL had a few sign...what do it do?
it's logic that for increase this signs, its need at absolute inclusion of deaf community, not hearing, for discuss abt new signs, but in this community there are lots of deaf that from of failed deaf school, of course they were influenced of alphabet manual, they gift lots of sign with configuration of alphabet initial
Today, i compare the ASL with my language (LIS), i undestand that there are different point of view for each sign, for example, to meet, we used two finger for hand that for us it mean that we five important for eyes, but they (american) used one finger for hand that for them it's important for body!
Starting from this, i learned so fast until a good acquisition of ASL.
Right now, ASL is my second sign language!
if i didn't go to siena school, i never know this important curiosity!!!
